Why a Shilajit Shot Is Harder to Make Than It Looks

Most supplements are a powder and a capsule machine. Shilajit is not. It starts as a tar-like resin that seeps out of rock at altitude, and everything that makes it worth taking is also what makes it difficult to handle: it is sticky, it is variable batch to batch, and it carries whatever the mountain it came from was carrying.

That last part is the reason this category has a reputation problem, and it is the reason we spent so long getting Shilajit Shots right.

Why raw shilajit is difficult to work with

Shilajit is not manufactured. It is collected. Our raw material is gathered at roughly 17,000 feet in the Himalayas, then sun-dried for around 60 days rather than heat-blasted, because high heat is fast and cheap and it degrades the fulvic acid you are actually paying for.

From there it has to be purified. Raw resin arrives with rock, plant matter and whatever else was embedded in it, and purification is where cheap operations cut corners. Filtering properly costs yield. Skipping it costs the customer.

Then it has to be tested, because altitude and geology mean heavy metals are a genuine risk in this category, not a hypothetical one. Every batch of ours is third-party lab tested in the United States, and the certificates of analysis are on the product page. If a shilajit brand cannot show you a current one, that tells you what you need to know.

Getting it into a shot was the hard part

Resin works. It has worked for centuries. But in practice a jar asks a lot of the person using it: dig out a portion with a spoon, judge the dose by eye, stir it into something warm, and accept that it tastes like it looks. Most people who quit shilajit quit for that reason, not because it stopped working for them.

A liquid shot solves all of that, and it introduces a different problem. Shilajit does not want to stay dissolved. Get the formulation wrong and it separates, or it turns bitter, or the dose drifts from bottle to bottle so nobody knows what they actually took.

• A current certificate of analysis covering heavy metals, from a third-party lab, for the batch you are buying.
• A stated dose of shilajit extract and fulvic content, per serving, in milligrams.
• Where it was finished, not just where the raw material was collected.
• A purification method the brand will actually describe.
